We are adding one more blessing to our lives - a beautiful 10 year old girl who needs someone to put a smile on her face. :) She has some facial paralysis that makes her self conscious about smiling - but we think that the silliness here will make it impossible to keep a straight face. :) She is reportedly a good student who is determined to study hard and do well. We will be visiting MUSC's cardiology department again as our newest daughter has some heart issues as well. We know the folks there can solve almost any problem and we look forward to seeing them again. Please pray that the One who made us all wonderfully will give this child the healing she needs and the courage for the upcoming transition. We are all excited about meeting her and can't wait to get her home. Please pray for both her and Sarah as they get ready to leave everything familiar and start new lives here.
Blessings, Kim
Once our eyes are opened, we cannot pretend we do not know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows we know and holds us responsible to act."
Proverbs 24:12

ReplyDeleteOh Kim you are momma to Sarah too!!!! I prayed for that sweet girl while she was with BAAS!!!And when I saw Jenny I knew that beauty was going to find a family asap!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on both of your new blessings!
We to had not heard of the facial palsy or muscle weakness that can be associated with microtia. We meet Pei one week after her 2nd birthday. We were told that she was very aware of her ear being different. We actually had people come up to her in the park and discus her ear in front of her . I knew she was uncomfortable when she put her head down :(
As far as the palsy I do not even notice it anymore. Pei has the most beautiful little smile that is all her own. I hate that Jenny does not want to smile because of that. That will all change once this precious girl gets to join your family.I am on a microtia yahoo group. I saw a little girl that had surgery to help her recover from the palsy. I believe it was a nerve graph and is a pretty extensive surgery. I have pics of Pei as a tiny infant and her palsy has improved dramatically since then. I was told that there are facial exercises that she can do to help. And I believe just using her facial muscles has helped. Pei will not need a hearing aid . We pull Pei's hair up in ponytails and pigtails . My hope is that she will be confident about any differences that kids point out.
I will tell you that her special need is not even a special need to our family!
Blessings to you and your family! And please let me know if I can help you at all!!

Thanks so much for all the kind words. :) Nicole, I'd love to talk to you about the choices with microtia. Apparently, she has hearing on the one side! I'll email you today for the link to the microtia group if that's ok!
